On Monday, June 9, 2008, in the case of USA vs. Jeanetta M. Standefor, a subsequent hearing was held at the U.S. Federal Courthouse, 312 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles. in courtroom 15, Judge Percy Anderson presiding. This hearing was to determine if the previously scheduled trial date of July 8 could be rescheduled out. Jeanetta's court appointed attorney, Charles Brown requested reschedule to "sometime in the fall" still citing "more time needed to get through 40,000 pages of discovery paperwork involved in this complicated (his words) case. Judge Anderson asked if he could be more specific in regards to when in the fall. Mr. Brown responded perhaps late October. Judge Anderson granted this request but rescheduled the trial to begin September 30, 8:30am.
A second issue during this hearing involved security in regards to her bond. The government is requesting property to secure the bond as they still consider her a flight risk. Jeanetta's attorney argued that she is not a flight risk, and pointed out the following considerations:
1) No previous criminal record. 2) Wearing GPS ankle monitor and has curfew. 3) Has a "serious health condition" (did not elaborate) 4) Before this matter, was considered an upstanding citizen in the Pasadena community, along with her husband and other family members. 5) Has surrendered her passport. 6) Has been present at all hearings, thus far.
It appears that one or two family members have offered up their homes individually as collateral, however, none seem to have enough equity to secure the 250k bond. HELLO!!!
PERHAPS SOMEONE SHOULD REMIND SOMEONE ELSE THAT THIS WOMAN HAS SCAMMED ENOUGH MONEY FROM ALL OF US TO PAY HER BOND IN CASH .
Judge Anderson refused to modify the bond amount set by the first magistrate in the bail hearing, he instead ordered that the matter be re-visited in the courtroom of Judge Abrahms, the judge who originally set the bond amount. That hearing will be held tomorrow, Wednesday,June 11, at 10:45 am on the 9Th floor of the U.S. courthouse, 312 N. Spring St.,
Los Angeles. It is my intention to attend; I will keep you all updated.
After the hearing ended, I was able to have a conversation with the government attorney assigned to this case, her name is Stephanie McCaffrey. She stated during the hearing that this was never an investment program designed to help people out of foreclosure. She alleges that it was a scam from the start and she indicated that the government is ready now in their case to prove it.
I was also privileged to have a conversation with the FBI special agent on this case, a woman by the name of Linda English. I will not relay all details of our conversation, however, all victims are encouraged to contact Special Agent English on 310.996.3904. A second contact is Georgina Hanif, she can be reached on 213.894.7627. It appears that approximately 200 investors have been identified, they know there's more, and you're encouraged to contact them. They will want to know your name, a way that you may be contacted, and please be prepared to produce your investment documentation. It was stated in court that approximately 9 of the 18 million dollars scammed can be accounted for in "ponzi payouts".
Judge Anderson also ordered that the victims to notified of hearing dates, trial dates and any/all changes made to these dates. This information can only be gotten out to you if you provide your contact information. |
